Sorry, Meghan! Brits to 'shun' children's book – 'UK does not care about her career!'

The Duchess of Sussex’s new book, called The Bench, was inspired by Prince Harry and their son, Archie. It developed after Meghan wrote a poem for her husband on Father’s Day.

However, following Meghan and Prince Harry’s explosive interview with Oprah Winfrey in March, brand and reputation management expert Eric Schiffer said Britons will shun the book.

He said Meghan “could have invented the first Covid vaccine in England and citizens would have shunned it”.

Mr Schiffer said: “The children’s book gives the Sussex brand a US boost since many American families want a piece of Royalty in their home and will spend.

“But UK consumers could care less about Markle’s career moves.

“Markle could have invented the first Covid vaccine in England and citizens would have shunned it like her and Harry are seen to have turned their backs on the Queen.

“The deal is probably worth under a million to two with ancillary tie-ins.”

Announcing the book, Meghan said: “The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born.

    “That poem became this story.

“This representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens.”

Meghan has also narrated the audiobook version of the story.

A statement said: “Inspired by her own husband and son, the debut of The Duchess of Sussex poignantly captures the evolving and growing relationship between fathers and sons and reminds us of the many ways in which love can be shaped and expressed in a modern family.

“The Bench evokes a deep sense of warmth, connection and compassion and gives readers a glimpse into shared and enduring moments between a diverse group of fathers and sons – moments of peace and reflection, trust and faith, discovery and learning, and lasting comfort.”

The Bench release date comes just days after Meghan gave birth to her second child, Lilibet Diana.

The royal baby was born on Friday and her name harks back to the Queen’s childhood nickname.

She is also named after Prince Harry’s mother, Diana, the Princess of Wales, who died in a car crash in 1997.

The new baby is the Queen’s 11th great-grandchild, and the first to be born since Philip’s death.

As the couple relocated to California after stepping down as members of the Royal Family it is not known when or if the Queen will meet her great-grandchild.

Meghan’s book is published by Random House Children’s Book in the US and Puffin in the UK and was released today (June 8).
