Strictly leaderboard: Will Mellor and Hamza Yassin on top with Tony Adams at risk

Strictly Come Dancing is the most fab-u-lous reality show around, jam-packed with sequins, sashays and scores from the eagle-eyed judges watching the celebrities’ every move. This year’s line-up danced for the first time with their professional partners, hoping to make a good impression early on. Express.co.uk has the full run-down of who’s at the top of the leaderboard in week one and who failed to get the crowd going.

Who is at the top of the Strictly Come Dancing leaderboard?

Will Mellor and Nancy Xu – 34

Keeping the party going was actor Will Mellor and Nancy Xu with the daunting Jive.

The judges were over the moon at their performance to Ricky Martin’s Livin’ La Vida Loca, with Anton saying that it looked as if he had danced that routine for 18 months.

Motsi excitedly commented: “I’m happy, I’m happy, I’m happy…what is this man?!”.

Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal – 34

The classic Islands in the Stream by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers was Countryfile’s Hamza & Jowita song of choice for week one.

They performed the Foxtrot and Craig was, for once, speechless, only saying “who knew”.

“We’ve got ourselves a ballroom dancer in the house”, according to Anton and Shirley swooned, telling Hamza that she would think of him whenever she heard this song from now on.

Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu – 31

Things were heating up with CBBC star Molly Rainford and newbie Carlos Gu this evening as they hit the ground running with their Samba.

They danced to Kiss My (Uh Oh) by Anne-Marie & Little Mix and and everyone agreed that they couldn’t wait to see more from the presenter.

Motsi labelled her a “shooting star” so she could be one to watch in season 20.

Fleur East and Vito Coppola – 29

Finishing off the night with party vibes was X Factor star Fleur East and Vito Coppola with Jennifer Lopez’s Let’s Get Loud.

They wowed the crowds with their Cha Cha Cha and Motsi was impressed with her “amount of power”.

Craig said she was a “fantastic dancer” but stated she was a bit “too wild” for him.

Ellie Taylor and Johannes Radebe – 28

Ted Lasso actress and comedian Ellie Taylor impressed the judges as she and Johannes Radebe sailed across the dancefloor.

Taking on the Quickstep to I Am What I Am by Klaus Hallen Tanzorchester, Motsi and Anton agreed that it was “divine”.

Craig also said how it was “beautifully choreographed” but Shirley stated she still needed to focus on her feet.

Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez – 26

Presenter and known daredevil Helen Skelton got everyone swaying with their American Smooth to You Send Me by Aretha Franklin.

The pair wowed the crowds and the judges with their debut performance, with Craig stating that he loved it and insisted she had “elegance”.

Motsi did say Helen’s eye level was a little too high but thought it was a great start to her time on Strictly.

Ellie Simmonds and Nikita Kuzmin – 26

Paralympian Ellie Simmonds and her partner Nikita Kuzmin were given the Cha Cha Cha to Dance by DNCE in their very first week of Strictly and everything went alright on the night.

Anton said her timing was excellent and while Craig pointed out she was a “little stuck on the second count in the New York”, her attitude and rhythm was fantastic.

Jayde Adams and Karen Haur – 23

Comedian Jayde Adams couldn’t have been more thrilled to be matched with Strictly veteran Karen Hauer.

They performed the Samba to Dirrty by Christina Augilera and Anton said “it was magic”.

However, Shirley commented that Jayde was doing heel leads which are a “no no” but nevertheless, “what a start!”.

Richie Anderson and Giovanni Pernice – 23

The judges and audience alike were loving Radio 2 host Richie Anderson’s Cha Cha Cha to Wham’s iconic You’re My Man.

Anton fell in love with the over the top routine, calling it “brilliant” and wanted to see more of that.

Craig, on the other hand, felt he was at RuPaul’s Drag Race and called it “spikey”.

Tyler West and Dianne Bushwell – 21

It was a romantic affair with presenter Tyler West and Dianne Buswell with their American Smooth.

Anton Du Beke said their performance was “so gorgeous” but said there was some problems “below the waterline”. Craig Revel Horwood also described it as “pedestrian”.

James Bye and Amy Dowden – 22

The Jive is one of Strictly’s most notoriously difficult dances so it’s no wonder EastEnders actor James Bye was feeling a little apprehensive at first.

Him and Amy Dowden did their kicks and flicks to What I Like About You by The Romantics and while he did his best, it didn’t go unnoticed by the judges that he messed up.

There were still some positive comments with Motsi saying “we have a lot to see from you”.

Kaye Adams and Kai Widdrington – 21

Broadcaster and Loose Women panelist Kaye Adams’ serious side came out with the Tango to ABBA’s Voulez-Vous.

While Kaye did put plenty of effort into the routine, the judges were unanimous in that she let her nerves get the better of her.

Motsi did say the TV personality did have “potential” though.

Matt Goss and Nadiya Bychkova – 20

Singer Matt Goss was eager to impress with his Quickstep to Sir Duke by The Chris Walden Big Band.

Sadly, he didn’t quite live up to expectations this time around with Shirley saying that he needed to “go back to the drawing board”.

Unexpectedly, Craig disagreed with his fellow judges as he thought it was “punchy” and that everyone else was being “nasty”.

Tony Adams and Katya Jones – 15

Ex-England and Arsenal footballer Tony Adams was truly out of his comfort zone as he donned a glitzy shirt and performed the Tango to Go West by Village People.

Positive comments were far and few between, despite all their hard work in training, with Craig saying that it appeared as if his feet were stuck to the floor.

Shirley, on the other hand, said he had a “lovely long neck” and “great shape from elbow to elbow”.

Strictly Come Dancing continues every Saturday on BBC One.
