Strictly’s Katie McGlynn has reassured her ex Giovanni Pernice’s new love Maura Higgins ahead of the series saying she ‘doesn’t have time for a man’.

The Coronation Street star, 28, – who never made her relationship official with the dancer hunk, 31, who is a professional on the show but was romantically linked to him five years ago – said that the Love Island beauty ‘has nothing to worry about’.

In a candid new interview she told how she would ‘never want to be that person’ and that nothing will ‘distract her from the dancing’.

She told The Sun: ‘Giovanni is a really nice guy but I don’t really know him, we’re on perfectly good terms but Maura has nothing to worry about.

‘I would never get involved with anyone that had a girlfriend, I understand that happens but I’d avoid that like the plague and if someone has a partner, they are completely off-limits.

‘I never want to be that person. The amount of heartache the other person would be going through — it’s just really not nice and I’m not about that.’

She added that she was sure the speculation would ‘die down’ after the celebrities are given their partners next Saturday.

Katie went on to say that she doesn’t have time for a man at the moment and even deleted the celebrity dating app Raya recently but will be open to finding love after the show.

It comes after it was reported last month that Strictly Come Dancing producers won’t pair Katie and Giovanni on the 2021 series returning next week.

Despite speculation bosses were keen to match them on the new series, they are now reportedly deciding against it because they don’t want to ‘stoke flames’.

The Sun claims they are trying to avoid starting rumours as Giovanni is now in a relationship with Maura.

A source told the publication recently: ‘There’s always speculation about the pairings and how they will impact on relationships. The bosses do not want to stoke flames.’
