Whether you’re ready to face it or not, July is just around the corner. For us homeowners, this could feel a little daunting if you’ve been putting off any of the maintenance items on your checklist. To keep your home happy and structurally sound, you need to keep up with necessary maintenance. In the summertime especially, when the weather is warmer, there are a number of list items that any homeowner should be taking care of. Since we’re not too deep into summer yet, it’s not too late to check some of these items off of your list. Here’s your summer home maintenance checklist to complete ASAP!

    Replace Air Filters

Regardless of where you live and what the weather patterns are like, you’ll want to make sure that your HVAC units are running smoothly and safely by replacing the air filters. These filters block dust, particles, and allergens from circulating through your home’s airways. Failing to regularly replace them can wreak havoc on your system as well as cause your energy bills to increase. This is because your system will need to work twice as hard to push air through dirty filters. Luckily, replacing these is an easy and inexpensive task. Just make sure to know the size filter to fit your unit.

     Pressure Wash the Exterior

Sometimes, you don’t even need to repaint your home for it to look brand new. By doing a good cleaning, the exterior of your home can look good as new in a fraction of the time. By using pressure (or a power washer), you can melt away months of dirt, dust, and grime embedded into your home’s siding. Further, you can also use the pressure washer to clean concrete porches and driveways, revealing a beautiful appearance. If you’re ever wondering what to fix before you sell your house, this is a good place to start.

     Fix Cracks in Driveway

If you have a driveway, whether it be composed of concrete, pavers, or blacktop, it’s going to experience wear and tear from the elements. After months of rain, snow, and temperature fluctuations, cracks are inevitable. Depending on the state of your driveway, you can either opt to totally replace it or do some work to fix the cracks. Not only will this make your driveway look better, but it will also help prevent additional cracks and holes that could cause damage to your vehicles.

     Clean Gutters

Your gutters serve a very important purpose: to allow rainwater to flow and drain properly without causing flooding. However, if your gutters are filled with leaves and other guck, then they won’t be doing their due diligence to keep your home safe from water damage. During the summer months, take the time to clear out your gutters and even consider installing gutter guards to protect against future blockages.

Keeping your home updated and maintained is good for a few reasons. Not only does it keep things looking and feeling good, but it can also increase the value of your home. Use a free home appraisal tool to see just how much it can help. This summer, get ahead of the game with some of the checklist items listed above.
