The memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire commemorates the courage and sacrifice of members of the UK Police service. Prince Charles laid a wreath at the national UK Police Memorial in memory of all those who dedicated their lives to protecting others. He gathered along with other leaders to commemorate this new national police memorial which cost £4.5 million

The weather did not hold out as the rain started to heavily fall in Staffordshire, however, everyone had an umbrella to hand.

The UK Police Memorial Twitter account shared the following message: “Today, we will be joined by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales to dedicate the new UK Police Memorial.

“His Royal Highness will unveil a plaque and lay a wreath to commemorate those from our police service who have dedicated their lives to keep us safe and protect us from harm.”

Judi James, a body language expert, spoke to Express.co.uk about Prince Charles’s body language during the solemn event.

Judi said: “Looking tanned, fit and elegant as well as clearly in possession of an expensive umbrella as well as the skills of holding it in place in gale-force gusts, Charles’s body language here is suitably understated but attentive at the opening of the new police memorial.

“This touching service deserved an air of quiet dignity and reflection, and this is a state that Charles has always excelled in.

“Chatting to his hosts he is seen smiling but not overly animated as though aware that the focus of the day is the brave policemen and women the memorial is commemorating.

“In these poses, Charles appears almost politely unaware of the small drama beside him as the PM’s umbrella turns inside out in the wind.

    DON’T MISS:

“Although he did turn at one point to smile at the struggles, this pose shows him back engaging in conversation with the host on his right while Boris Johnson’s woes continue.

“That sense of a lack of connection seems to be visible in their other photo here, when Boris sits facing forward with a healthy social distance between him and the heir to the throne while Charles is turned away, deep in conversation elsewhere.”

Many on social media shared their gratitude towards Prince Charles for marking the occasion and standing in solidarity with the UK police force.

One Twitter user said: “So grateful to His Royal Highness Prince of Wales for recognising the courage and sacrifice of all police officers.”

Prince Charles delivered a speech to the guests in Staffordshire to offer his condolences to the families and loved ones of those who have died while serving in the police force.

Prince Charles said: “Ever since the earliest recorded death of an unknown constable in 1680, approximately 5000 men and women from our police service have died in the line of duty, notably 221 since the turn of this century.

“To those of you with a with personal experience of the sudden unexpected and tragic loss of someone in the police service: whether you are here today viewing from home, or attending one of the many services within your constabularies, I could only offer the assurance of my most heartfelt thoughts and prayers.

“On behalf of the nation, I would particularly like to express my profound gratitude for the valour and sacrifice of those who have laid down their lives to keep us safe.

“To remember their families who mourn and to recognise those who continue to serve in order to safeguard our freedoms.”

Prince Charles has appeared all across the country recently, carrying out lots of royal engagements along with the Duchess of Cornwall.

Many royal commentators believe he is appearing more to stand in for Her Majesty the Queen so that he is fully prepared to take on his role as King.
