Outspoken Today Extra commentator tells Taylor Swift to ‘grow up and get over’ the ex-boyfriend she dated for three months a decade ago
An outspoken Australian journalist has given Taylor Swift a piece of her mind during an extraordinary spray on Today Extra on Wednesday.
Carla Bignasca appeared on the Nine show to discuss Swift’s new single All Too Well, which is rumoured to be about her three-month romance with actor Jake Gyllenhaal in 2010.
Viewers were stunned by Ms Bignasca’s scathing verdict of the song as she told Swift to grow up and stop writing about her ex-boyfriends from more than a decade ago.
‘Can I just say, three months was shorter than we’ve spent in lockdown! Okay, it was not a very long amount of time,’ she said.
The controversy surrounding All Too Well centres on the lyrics referring to a scarf, which Taylor claims was left at her ex-boyfriend’s sister’s house and never returned after their break-up.
Fans are speculating the sister in question is Jake’s sister, actress Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Acknowledging she will likely receive ‘death threats’ for airing her opinion, Ms Bignasca added: ‘Taylor Swift is a 31-year-old woman… Whether [Jake has] kept the scarf or even thought about [the scarf]… time to move on.’
Today Extra co-host Sylvia Jeffreys interrupted Ms Bignasca’s rant to defend Swift.
She pointed out that the only reason All Too Well – a song written in 2012 – is making headlines at the moment is because Swift has been re-releasing her old music following a copyright clash with ex-producer Scooter Braun.

Short-lived romance: ‘Can I just say, three months was shorter than we’ve spent in lockdown! OK. It was not a very long amount of time,’ Bignasca ranted

Scarf scandal: Much of the controversy surrounding All Too Well are the lyrics referring to a scarf, which Taylor claims was left at her ex-boyfriend’s house and never returned after the breakup
However, co-host David Campbell noted that Swift did actively draw attention to the song this week by releasing a newly-filmed 10-minute music video.
‘Exactly! It’s a little self indulgent, don’t you think?’ Bignasca agreed.
All Too Well was originally released as part of 2012’s Red album, but an extended version was released on November 11 this year, as part of the Grammy winner’s undertaking to re-record most of her discography.
