The Bachelor records dismal ratings for Wednesday’s episode as Seven’s coverage of the Tokyo Olympics continues to hold the No. 1 spot

The ratings are not looking good for The Bachelor.

After a shocking launch last month, the Channel 10 dating show recorded a dismal 366,000 metro viewers on Wednesday night and was trounced by Seven’s coverage of the Tokyo Olympics, reports Mediaweek.

While it’s a slight jump from last week’s record-low figure of 360,000, it’s still one of the lowest-rated episodes in the history of the franchise, which launched in 2013.

Wednesday’s episode saw Bachelor Jimmy Nicholson go on a solo flight-simulator date with contestant Stephanie Lynch before the pair kissed.

The kiss was the main talking point of the episode, as was Jimmy’s ‘Baywatch’ moment, the appearance of his friend Fin, and trainer Elena Wee getting sent home.

But the drama wasn’t enough to attract more eyeballs, as the show was once again decimated by the Olympics on Seven.

The evening session for the Tokyo Olympics reached 1.238 million viewers, while the night block topped out at 1.791 million viewers – almost five times what The Bachelor recorded.

The main highlight was Australian runner Peter Bol finishing fourth in the 800 metre finals.

The Olympics completely crushed all key age demographics across all networks.

The impressive figures translated into Channel Seven recording a dominating audience share of 53.7 per cent.

Nine came in second with 18.8 per cent and Ten finished in third with a very underwhelming share of 11.8 per cent.

In comparison to other non-news programs, The Bachelor lost out to Seven’s The Chase (662,000), Nine’s Hot Seat (496,000) and the ABC’s Mad as Hell (415,000).
