Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast returned on Friday for a special edition – but viewers were left wanting more.

AJ Odudu, 33, and Mo Gilligan, also 33, stepped up to host the light entertainment show as part of the television broadcaster’s Black To Front series.

The programme previously ran for ten years until 2002, but the comeback left fans feeling nostalgic.

The special edition welcomed a slew of stars for various segments, including Usain Bolt and Nile Rodgers, with Love Island’s Toby Aromolaran, Lisa Mafia and Judi Love joining AJ and Mo in the studio.

The retired Jamaican sprinter, 35, admitted he was ‘speechless’ when Jay-Z introduced him to Beyoncé.

Mo asked Usain if he had ever been embarrassed in front of a celeb, to which he responded: ‘Yeah. Beyoncé. I had a whole conversation planned in my head like, “if I ever meet Beyoncé one day, this is what I’m gonna say.”

‘And I saw her, Jay-Z was like, “let me introduce you to my wife. This is Beyoncé.” And I went “………hi” and she looked at me like, “hi… who’s this weirdo?”’

AJ, who is renowned for co-presenting the Channel 5 reality show spin-off Big Brother’s Bit on the Side, described her presenting stint on the morning show as ‘beautiful.’

‘It’s been so beautiful. For me, there’s a lot of nostalgia in this show, but stepping into this house felt like me as a little girl stepping into the telly. It’s beautiful,’ she remarked.

Fans piled heaps of praise onto the show – and if the general consensus on Twitter was anything to go by, more Big Breakfast is in demand.

‘Omg! Please @Channel4 bring back the #bigbreakfast its the best thing this morning! Come on c4’ one happy viewer wrote, whilst a further fan said how refreshing it was to ‘see a studio full of black talent.’

Another quote-tweeted Mo’s appreciation at appearing on the show and penned: ‘Forget being a one off this needs to be a permanent addition to the schedule @Channel4 #BlackToFront #bigbreakfast’.

An avid fan described it as ‘fantastic’, ‘light-hearted’ and ‘fun’ like it was back in the 90s – when the show was previously hosted by the likes of Denise van Outen and Johnny Vaughan.

The glowing reviews come as the Black To Front series will see journalist and broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald, 82, replace Ann Robinson as host of the long-running game show Countdown.

Steph’s Packed Lunch will also see Mel B, 46, step in to host, where she will be joined by football pundit Chris Kamara.

The Big Breakfast is available now on All 4.
