The eye-watering cash prizes for TV shows that NOBODY watched: These programs gave away millions despite bombing in the ratings – so how many do you remember?

Channel 10’s Making It bombed in the ratings earlier this year.

But despite the fact nobody watched it, the network still had to fork over $100,000 to the show’s winner, prop maker George.

Now TV Tonight has compiled some of the other notable shows that featured big cash prizes but attracted very little interest from viewers.

In 2004, Channel 10 gave away a whopping $2million to the winners of renovation series The Hot House.

Hosted by Erika Heynatz, the show saw couples attempt to build a dream home on Queensland’s Bribie Island.

It’s not the only reno show that failed to catch on in the ratings, with 2009’s homeMADE tanking despite offering a $100,000 cash prize.

Channel Seven’s Restaurant Revolution in 2015 upped the money to $200,000, but was so unsuccessful it was edited down to less episodes.

More recently, The Biggest Loser offered $100,000 to the winner in 2017, but its ratings were so bad the finale aired at 11am as a Studio 10 segment.

Meanwhile, the future of Big Brother VIP has been thrown into question following a disastrous year.

Despite a headline-grabbing cast and tireless marketing campaign, the latest season struggled to contend with its rivals in the ratings.

The reality show has failed to get beyond 380,000 viewers in the five capital cities, and usually ranks as the third or fourth most-watched show of the night.

Last week’s ratings continued to disappoint, with Big Brother VIP drawing a dismal metro audience of 363,000.

The program was decimated by Nine’s Parental Guidance, which almost doubled its audience with 604,000 viewers.

The winner will take home $100,000 for their chosen charity.
