    Lau Abend is set to make her debut as a contestant on The Voice Australia when the new season premieres next month.

    In a new trailer for the upcoming season, the 21-year-old singer revealed how a life-changing experience pushed her into the deep end.

    In the video, Lau revealed she was lost at sea after her family were left behind on a scuba diving trip overseas.

    ‘I went overseas with my family, we went scuba diving and the [tour] guide we were with got really disorientated,’ she said.

    ‘It was not until we got to the surface that we realised the boat had actually left us there.’

    Lau continued: ‘At the five and a half hours mark, you could see sharks below. I was constantly thinking “Will I die?”.’

    She made a promise to herself that ‘If I’m going to survive today, I’m going to make music my career.’

    She is then seen walking on the stage before performing to judges Rita Ora, Keith Urban, Jessica Mauboy and Guy Sebastian.

    ‘Walking onto the stage tonight I have elements of fear but I faced fear and I know what fear feels like,’ she said.

    The upcoming season of The Voice Australia officially wrapped production in April.

    According to The Daily Telegraph, producers filmed a number of endings in order to keep the identity of the winner a secret.

    The finale was shot on Sunday at Carriageworks in Sydney, with coaches Rita Ora, Guy Sebastian, Keith Urban and Jessica Mauboy in attendance.
