West Ham fan severs finger as fellow Hammers plead for ice after celebrating Genk goal

West Ham United took one step closer to qualification from their Europa League group on Thursday evening with a 2-2 draw against Belgian side Genk away from home. However, the win was marred by a fan who lost his finger after celebrating one of their goals – with fans pleading for ice after the incident.

A superb Said Benrahma double was cancelled out by Tomas Soucek’s unfortunate own goal in the dying embers of the game, although the Hammers remain unbeaten in their European quest thus far.

Having picked up 10 points from a possible 12, only a draw from their last two games is required to advance to the knockout stages of the Europa League.

David Moyes will be understandably excited at his team’s current form, with the Hammers in the top four in the Premier League alongside their superb European journey.

But the draw was somewhat tarnished after footage was posted by a fan inside the away crowd at the Cegeka Arena showing that a West Ham fan had lost a finger in the celebrations of one of Benrahma’s goals in Belgium.

Fellow Hammers fans were visibly looking on in disgust at the incident which undoubtedly left many feeling queasy in the away end.

“F*****g hell, just see some poor hammer lose his finger as he was celebrating our 2nd goal,” one man who was at the game tweeted.

“Took the medical staff about 10 minutes to get some f*****g ice, absolutely pathetic. I hope the man’s finger is saved.”

A tweet then emerged of the finger left on a railing by a steward, after being picked up off the floor by the man in orange.

“Mate, it’s his finger! It’s his finger!” they could be heard saying before the steward picked it up from the floor to give to the shocked away end.

“Don’t give it to us mate, what the f**k! Put it in ice, it’s his finger!

“Ice, ice, ice, ice, ice, quick come on, for goodness’ sake!”
