Whitney Houston's 1992 blockbuster film The Bodyguard is being remade

The late Whitney Houston is best known as a singer who created the hit tunes I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Saving All My Love For You.

But in 1992 the beauty also starred in a blockbuster film with Kevin Costner: The Bodyguard which spawned the hit song I Will Always Love You.

And on Wednesday it was claimed by Variety that the film is going to be remade with writer Matthew López, the Tony-nominated playwright of The Inheritance.

The Bodyguard is about a former United States Secret Service agent turned bodyguard Frank Farmer (Costner) who is hired to protect a famous singer Rachel Marron (Houston) from an stalker. 

Along the way the two fall in love.

The new movie is said to be ‘inspired’ by Whitney and Kevin’s romantic drama.

Lawrence Kasdan of Kasdan Pictures is producing the movie with Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback.

Kasdan was the writer-producer of the original. 

He had written the script in the mid-1970s, which was earmarked for Steve McQueen and Diana Ross, but it fell through. 

The new project has been discussed since 2011 but never got off the ground.  

The casting will not be easy as Houston not only looked great on screen, she also had that intense voice.

At times it has thought Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson could take the lead parts.

López is currently co-writing the musical adaptation of the classic film Some Like It Hot which starred Marilyn Monroe.
