Chelsea may not need to dip into the transfer market to replace Timo Werner if he is sold to Bayern Munich in January. The 25-year-old, who only joined the Blues from RB Leipzig last summer, has been linked with a shock exit just 18 months after his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
Werner has struggled to live up to expectations since his £47million move to Chelsea, with the forward scoring just six times in the Premier League last season.
It seems as though he could soon be on his way back to Germany, with Bayern said to be working on a January offer.
Julian Nagelsmann managed to get the best out of Werner during his time in charge of Leipzig and is reportedly keen to do the same in his new role at the Allianz Arena.
The move would represent a disappointing end to Werner’s spell at Chelsea, which is likely to be remembered for its low points rather than the highs.
However, the Blues could get away with avoiding a January move for another forward to fill the Germany international’s boots if they decide to cut their losses.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has been used sparingly by Thomas Tuchel since the 48-year-old replaced Frank Lampard at the helm in mid-January.
He has often been deployed as a makeshift right wing-back in order to provide cover in the area, but has the ability to be influential in his preferred position.
The 20-year-old favours an attacking role and has excelled on plenty of occasions when called upon to do a job as a wide forward.
He boasts plenty of pace and trickery in abundance, with his quick footwork helping him to emerge as one of Chelsea’s finest dribblers.

Meanwhile, his cultured range of passing can also be a real asset for the Blues in one of the two supporting roles behind the lone striker in Tuchel’s trademark 3-4-2-1 setup.
Hudson-Odoi has struggled to get into the Chelsea side as of late due to the strength of their current attacking contingent.
However, if Werner departs for Bayern at the turn of the year, it could represent the perfect opportunity for the England man to finally assert himself at the Blues.
Tuchel would still have the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz to call upon alongside Hudson-Odoi.

Chelsea’s wealth of options in attack suggest that a big-money signing to replace Werner would make little sense, especially when the club’s focus is likely to be on engineering a move for Sevilla defender Jules Kounde.
The 22-year-old came close to joining the Blues during the summer, but a fee could not be agreed at club level and the proposed move was ruled out as the window drew to a close.
It remains to be seen whether Hudson-Odoi will be able to step up for Chelsea in the event of Werner’s premature exit in January.
Regardless of how Tuchel opts to handle the situation, it will be crucial for him to make the right decisions in the market as he looks to gear up for the business end of the season.
