Remember me? Former X Factor Australia winner Reece Mastin looks completely different these days after reinventing himself as a rock musician

Reece Mastin has come a long way since his days as a fresh-faced teenager on The X Factor Australia.

A decade after winning the reality TV talent program, Reece, now 26, is a successful touring musician who has left his manufactured past behind.

He also looks much different these days, and now sports a scruffy beard and tattoos that are worlds away from his time as a teen pop star.

The English-born singer, who now goes by the stage name MASTIN, has spent the last several years reinventing himself as a rocker.

In 2018, he topped the iTunes rock chart with his first independent album, Suitcase of Stories.

He’s since earned the respect of major rock artists like Jimmy Barnes, Diesel and The Living End’s Chris Cheney.

Reece first shot to fame as the winner of The X Factor Australia’s third season back in 2011.

He became one of the most successful artists from the series, producing not one but two No. 1 singles.

His debut single, Good Night, went five times platinum, selling over 350,000 copies and and becoming one of the highest selling hits of 2011.

He produced a number of other hits, including Shout It Out and Shup Up & Kiss Me, before eventually parting ways with Sony Music Australia in 2015.

Reese then went the independent route after signing a management deal with Mahalia Barnes.

Reece admitted to The Advertiser back in March 2018 that he struggled with bouts of depression after winning the series.

‘It’s hard when you’re in the public view, you’ve got to put on this happy persona, you don’t want to pick up the phone and talk to someone but you’re miserable as all f***ing hell,’ he told the publication.

Admitting that he didn’t even think about depression as a teenager, Reece added that he sought therapy which had been a great help.

‘It got to the point, the more I was spending time with myself or trying to get to know myself, the more I didn’t like what I was seeing in the mirror.’
