Give him a St George's Cross! Britons demand hero cabbie is honoured after Liverpool blast

Mr Perry’s “heroic efforts” averted what could have been an “awful disaster” according to Liverpool city Mayor.

His actions in locking the doors before the blast appear to have prevented the explosion from having a wider impact.

Taking to Twitter, Britons are urging officials to recognise the heroics of the cabbie.

Brendan Cox, taking to Twitter said: “Surely David Perry deserves the George Cross after this? Amazing heroism putting his own life at risk.”

The George Cross is the highest award bestowed by the British government for non-operational gallantry or gallantry, not in the presence of an enemy.
