The taxi driver, named locally as David Perry, is reported to have stopped his vehicle outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital after locking his passenger inside the vehicle when he noticed he was carrying a “device”. While the bomb-carrying passenger was stuck in the cab, Mr Perry then exited his taxi.

The male passenger, who has not been formally identified, is reported to have been the incident’s lone fatality and was pronounced dead at the scene.

It has since been reported Mr Perry has been admitted to hospital where he is in a stable condition and is being treated for his injuries.

GB News’ Dan Wootton, 38, responded to the reports by tweeting: “Liverpool taxi driver Dave Perry may well have saved hundreds of people from a Remembrance Day terrorist attack at Liverpool Women’s Hospital.

    “God bless this great Briton.

    “A hero.

“And God damn the scumbags who continue to try and inflict their cowardly terror.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, 57, said: “My thoughts are with all those affected by the awful incident in Liverpool today.

“I want to thank the emergency services for their quick response and professionalism, and the police for their ongoing work on the investigation.”
