'Hypocrite' Barnier backlash: Ex-Brexit chief's French election bid lies in tatters – poll

Mr Barnier promised, if he were elected, to hold a referendum on a “constitutional shield”.

But far from gaining support in France, many have blasted the former Europhile as a hypocrite.

Former MEP and Brexiteer Nigel Farage, as expected, condemned Mr Barnier’s comments.
