The new rules follow rumours suggesting ministers are considering officially placing France on the Department for Transport’s red list amid fears of “re-seeding” the Beta variant of the coronavirus.
Georgina Thomas, a fully-vaccinated nurse from Buckinghamshire, told PA news agency she was “frustrated” with the Government’s approach.
“I’m frustrated with the inconsistent approach the Government are taking, it doesn’t all appear logical,” she said.
“If a quarantine is necessary then so be it but I’m confident that my risk will be higher when I return to the UK.
“I hope people don’t see this as a disincentive to be vaccinated, it’s still so important.”
Ms Thomas, who has been visiting her parents near La Rochelle with her one-year-old daughter, said of quarantining on her return: “It will be a long 10 days but we are the fortunate ones, I understand that, plenty will think we shouldn’t be travelling anyway.”
Fears over the Beta variant have been fuelled following the belief the strain may be more resistant to vaccines.
Ahead of Wednesday afternoon’s traffic light reshuffle, ministers agreed to monitor the situation in France rather than simply add it to the UK’s red list, a senior Government source told The Telegraph.
The source said: “They are worried about the South African variant because they think it escapes the vaccine, although they don’t have evidence of that yet.

The 63-year-old had intended on remaining in the country for five weeks but is planning to return to the UK after less than three weeks.
He added: “We could stay and hope the situation changes but given the knee-jerk reaction by the UK Government we cannot take the chance in case the situation deteriorates further.”
