China has been accused of “ignoring the White House” amid reports a request by President Joe Biden for a one-to-one meeting with Xi Jinping was given the cold shoulder. Fox News host Elizabeth MacDonald has warned China is “not answering the phone call” in a discussion with Republican Congressman woman Nicole Malliotakis. Ms Malliotakis blasted President Biden for placing China in a “strong position” over the US withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Ms Macdonald told Fox News: “President Biden had made a phone call to President Xi Jinping of China last week asking for a face-to-face summit.

“China is not answering the phone call.”

Turning to Congresswoman Malliotakis, she added: “This is serious stuff China seems to be ignoring the White House’s demands for a summit?”

“Well, I am not sure that Beijing has much respect for the President and that is definitely a problem,” replied Ms Malliotakis.

She added: “They have been watching everything that has happened in Afghanistan.

    “This hasty disastrous withdrawal.

“I am sure they are thinking of taking steps with regards to Taiwan and Hong Kong, and you know that is what their priority is right now.

“Unfortunately the President has put them in a situation where they have a position of strength.”

Roger Garside, author of the book “China Coup: The Great Leap to Freedom” told DW News: “This totalitarian dictatorship is outwardly strong but inwardly weak.”

Asked where the main threat to President Xi will come, he replied: “Within the top ranks of the Communist Party.

“But with an external force acting as well, the US and its allies have got to adopt a more aggressive strategy towards China.”

The author said: “We can’t dictate how China is governed, but we can and must engineer events, so that we help those who want to free China to do so.”
