A Liverpool win against Atletico at Anfield would confirm their place in the Champions League knockout stages, as they would command an eight point lead over the La Liga champions, who are in third place.

However, Klopp is taking nothing for granted as he knows first-hand how dangerous Atletico are.

“His team is a results machine and ultimately that is what this job is all about for those of us privileged to get the chance to do it at a professional level,” Klopp elaborated.

“They are Spanish champions and when I look at their quality, from front to back, I would expect them to retain their crown and rightly be considered one of the favourites for the competition we play in this evening.

“They are a top top team, one of the world’s most powerful clubs and they consistently perform well. They have our total respect.”
