    Maggie Gyllenhaal and Dakota Johnson were spotted posing for a few photos while attending a screening of The Lost Daughter at the Mill Valley Film Festival in San Rafael, California on Saturday.

    The stars appeared to be enjoying their time as they were seen spending time with various other performers, such as Paul Mescal, who appears in the movie.

    Maggie, 43, made her directorial debut with the feature, which previously premiered at the 78th Venice International Film Festival last month.

    Johnson wore a lovely black velvet dress that obscured much of her shapely frame to the screening.

    The 32-year-old performer paired her outfit with a matching pair of high-heeled shoes as she spent time on the red carpet.

    The Fifty Shades franchise star added a little bit of shine to her outfit with a single necklace at the film festival.

    Her gorgeous brunette locks were partially tied back, with two long strands making their way down the sides of her face.

    The Donnie Darko actress also sported a pair of high-heeled shoes in the same shade as her outfit.

    She accessorized with several articles of jewelry, including two silver bracelets and a set of earrings.

    Development on The Lost Daughter began in 2018 when it was announced that Gyllenhaal had acquired the rights to the project.

    The feature was based on Elena Ferrante’s 2006 novel of the same name, which was originally published under the title La figlia oscura.

    In addition to directing the feature, the Hank actress penned its screenplay and served as one of its producers.

    The cast of the film included performers such as Ed Harris, Peter Sarsgaard and Oliver Jackson-Cohen, among numerous others.

    Principal photography on the project began in the latter part of September, with Greece serving as a primary filming location.

    The feature eventually had its premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival, where Gyllehnaal was given the Golden Osella Award for Best Screenplay.

    The Lost Daughter received overwhelmingly positive reviews upon its release, and it currently has a rating of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes.

    The feature is currently set to make its wide debut on the Netflix streaming service on December 31st.
