Man City's three options to succeed Guardiola after Brendan Rodgers 'agrees' Man Utd move

The news will come as a blow to City chiefs, especially as they look to plan for the long-term stability of the club.

Most managers in the world would jump at the chance to manage a squad as strong as the Blues.

And the City hierarchy will no doubt be doing their best to make sure the next boss can bring the same longevity and success as Guardiola, whose contract expires in 2023.

Express Sport takes at three potential candidates to take over at the Etihad with Rodgers potentially out of the running.

    Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino’s stock is sky-high among Premier League clubs after guiding Tottenham to the Champions League final on a shoe-string budget.

The north Londoners had little to spend when the Argentine was in charge because they were playing off their magnificent new stadium.

Pochettino has always been open to returning to England and he could be the right man to succeed Guardiola.

The 49-year-old is in the Paris Saint-Germain hotseat but he is struggling to get the best out of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, meaning he could be available sooner than planned.

    Patrick Vieira

Patrick Vieira had his doubters when he took charge of Crystal Palace this summer because he was axed by French minnows Nice just 12 months earlier.

The former City midfielder got his first taste of management when he retired from playing for the Blues to become their ‘Elite Development Squad’ boss.

He then had a successful spell at City’s sister team, New York City, where he guided them into the MLS playoff in his debut campaign.

And he has led Palace to 10th in the table this season. If he continues to shine in the top-flight then a big promotion could await.

    Julian Nagelsmann

A club with City’s ambition should be going for the very best and most innovative managers in world football and Julian Nagelsmann more than fits the bill.

The ex-Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig boss was snapped up by Bayern Munich this season as they look to continue dominating German football.

At just 34 years old, Nagelsmann is one of the youngest elite bosses in the game but that means he has a long future ahead of him.

And he could be the ideal candidate to replace Guardiola – should he ever be made available by Bayern.
