National insurance hike: PM admits 'pandemic changed things' as he readies to break pledge



    The Prime Minister is set to unveil his plan for social care later this week, outlining how he intends to fix the funding crisis.

    His proposals to increase national insurance contributions have been met with backlash by Tory MPs, with many fearing anger from voters after the party pledged not to increase the tax at the last election.

    While refusing to comment on the details of Mr Johnson’s social care plans, when asked today about the manifesto commitment, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman said Covid has “changed things”.
