Prince Charles revealed the heart-warming gesture during an interview with the BBC on the Balmoral estate. The Prince of Wales said his eldest grandson Prince George had served as inspiration for one of his environmental projects at the Queen’s Scottish retreat.  The royal was discussing his hopes for the environmental future of Britain in the run-up to the Cop26 Summit in Glasgow next month, which the heir to the throne will attend alongside Her Majesty, Prince William, and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge.

A spokesman for the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment at the London School of Economics, Bob Ward, told the Daily Telegraph: “Prince Charles, and increasingly Prince William, have shown a particular interest in this area.”

“Prince Charles is definitely recognised around the world as a deep thinker on these issues, and having a track record of having been interested in this for a long, long time.”

“So it’s not just the symbolism – they are people of substance on these issues.”

Prince William is set to announce the winners of the Earthshot Prize later this month. The total prize is £50 million.
