The royal expert said: “One of the reasons Prince Philip stepped back from royal duties at 96 was because he didn’t want the Palace putting out daily bulletins about the state of his health if he didn’t feel up to doing an engagement on a particular day. As monarch and head of state, Queen Elizabeth II doesn’t really have that option.”
“These wobbles are an important reminder that despite saying ‘you’re as young as you feel’, Her Majesty is as old as her 95 years.
“She must, therefore, recognise, as her late husband did, that she is only human and she must pace herself going forward – for all our sakes.”
Mr Jobson’s comments in the Daily Mirror come after the Queen was forced to cancel a trip to Northern Ireland last week, after receiving medical advice telling her to rest for a few days instead.
She was then admitted to hospital for an overnight stay on Wednesday, for some “preliminary checks”.
This was the monarch’s first overnight stay in hospital in eight years.
After the Queen’s trip to hospital, the palace released a statement saying: “Following medical advice to rest for a few days, the Queen attended hospital on Wednesday afternoon for some preliminary investigations, returning to Windsor Castle at lunchtime today (Thursday) and remains in good spirits.”
The decision to admit the monarch is believed to have been a precautionary one.
But Mr Jobson said that, given her age – and her consistently busy schedule – we should not “be hugely surprised” that the queen was forced to rest.

He said: “At the Abbey she was pictured using a cane for the first time. The Palace said she was using it for her “comfort”.
“This coupled with the fact that she has given up her favourite alcohol tipple – a strong early evening Martini – on doctors’ advice, has got some very commentators worried.”
But in spite of the Queen’s seemingly ill health, she is still set to attend the COP26 Climate Summitt in Glasgow next month.
The summit is expected to attract 120 heads of state, including US President Joe Biden.
Others expected to travel to Scotland include Pope Francis and climate campaigner Greta Thunberg.
Mr Jobson said the Queen is “determined” to do so, adding: “London Bridge is NOT falling down and Her Majesty is in fine fettle, I am told.”
Just last month, the queen rejected a magazine’s Oldie of the Year Award, saying: “you are as old as you feel, as such The Queen does not believe she meets the relevant criteria to be able to accept, and hopes you will find a more worthy recipient.”
