Richard Madeley clashed with Dr Hilary Jones on Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain as he argued against a delay to lockdown easing on June 21.

The show’s guest host, 65, became visibly angry when discussing recent reports that the final stage of easing could be delayed by two weeks.

On the potential delay being enforced, Richard asked Dr Hilary, 67,: ‘You’re going to agree, aren’t you?’, to which he replied: ‘I am.’

He continued: ‘I mean, we’re looking at rising cases, we’re looking at a population where – still – only 75 per cent have had the first jab and just over half have had the second jabs.

‘So a lot of people unprotected with a variant which is pretty nasty.

‘So the idea of mass gatherings, the idea of people abandoning masks, hand sanitising and social distancing is crazy at a time when things are getting worse.’

However in response, Richard insisted that due to the successful vaccine roll out in the UK, the government should allow the lockdown restrictions to lift.

He argued: ‘But we have government ministers who have said – repeatedly now after two weeks ago – that the vaccines have broken the link between Covid and hospitalisations and deaths. They’ve broken the link.’

Refusing to back down, Dr Hilary said: ‘And that is why we need to be a little more patient, get everybody vaccinated and then we can start thinking about lifting restrictions.

‘If we do it too early, there’s a risk of going where we were back before.’

Richard hit back, saying: ‘What you and people in your camp say Hilary, is that delay shouldn’t necessarily be a couple of weeks or even a couple of months, it might have to run up to Christmas.

‘And I don’t think the public are going to wear that.’

Susanna Reid, 50, then pointed out that the vaccination protects well against the Indian variant.

It comes after Good Morning Britain viewers were left cringing over Richard and Susanna’s ‘excruciating’ interview with a family of nudists, on Monday.

With nudism on the rise, the co-hosts were tasked with finding out why it’s so appealing to bare all, but the 11-minute segment didn’t find favour with viewers.

Speaking from a field in Doncaster, Carol and Colin Wood along with their daughter Angie explained why they preferred life without clothes.

Covering their naked bodies by kneeling behind straw bales, Colin explained: ‘It’s enjoyable, it’s convenient, you’re not struggling to change your clothes in a small tent, and people trust each other.

‘I’ve had many ladies go with me in a Land Rover across the field and there’s a trust that isn’t there in other societies.’

Asked by Richard if they ever feel judged, Colin insisted: ‘No, not at all. By the time you’ve taken to naturism you’re happy with your body.

‘The young people are frightened and keep covered up, and you get older and you’re body goes out of shape, you’re not bothered anymore.’

Viewers took to Twitter to voice their opinions of the 11-minute segment, with many branding it ‘cringe’ and ‘awkward.’

One person wrote: ‘The nudists on #goodmorningbritain were too funny. They couldn’t keep a straight face.’

‘omg it was so funny & cringy seeing these nudists so early on me telly’ tweeted someone else, while another insisted: ‘Watching you interview those 3 nudists is EXCRUCIATING!’
