Kathryn’s business plan was for a company that designs matching pyjamas for all family members – including the four-legged kind. Her site Pyjamily, and its sister website My Christmas Pyjamas, have seen three to four times more orders than they had before, something that she credits to appearing on the show.
The 29-year-old said: “I opened the Christmas shop last month and we were immediately four times busier than any other year.
“I feel like my life hasn’t changed really but some people do see me in the street and want to talk, which is so weird. Some people will think that they know me, and you sort of do when you watch someone ONTV, but I don’t know them! It feels very odd.
“I have Lord Sugar on Whatsapp now and the other day I asked him to tweet about my Christmas shop and he did, which was so lovely and kind. Tim Campbell also keeps in touch.
“Appearing on the show was a no-brainer. Even without winning the investment, eight million people saw me and my business, and some of them may remember it now. It was an amazing opportunity and I am so glad I did it.”
Viewers enjoyed watching Kathryn and Harpreet’s friendship on screen as they formed a bond early on in the show, and she says it was entirely authentic.
“We are such good friends -honestly I am so glad I had Harpreet to go through it all with.
“As far as I was concerned, Lord Sugar would choose the person with the plan he liked the most, and it didn’t matter if we were friends or not.
“Having each other was important. We were able to support one another, we practiced our speeches together before the final and gave each other advice. The final was emotional and so intense but, to be honest, I thought I was getting fired so many times already.
“I was just so happy for Harpreet – she didn’t put a foot out of place and deserved to win. After, I was glad to get back to my family and friends and real life. But it is amazing how my business has benefited.”
Kathryn came up with her idea when she was reuniting with her family after three years in Australia. She wanted to buy matching pyjamas but struggled to find some in the UK. Since then, some stores have cottoned on but very few have co-ordinating outfits for pets.
Kathryn says: “A dog is part of the family. My poodle Pickle is absolutely part of the family.
“And I have lovely memories of childhood and Christmas. It is a wonderful time of year to be together.”
