Tommy Little insists there’s no tension between himself and Project co-host Lisa Wilkinson after one of his raunchy on-air jokes appeared to offend the veteran broadcaster last month

Tommy Little has shut down rumours that there’s tension between himself and his Project co-host Lisa Wilkinson.

The pair went viral last month when Tommy made a joke about South African cricketer Quinton de Kock that left Lisa visibly cringing.

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle about the incident, Tommy said: ‘She was fine. She was absolutely fine. If she was not happy, I’d be dead.’

He jokingly added: ‘If Wilko is not happy with you she can have you killed!’

On October 24’s episode of The Project, Lisa looked extremely awkward over Tommy’s reporting on South African cricketer Quinton de Kock’s performance during the match against Australia at the T20 World Cup.

Lisa, 61, squirmed in her seat when Tommy, 36, quipped: ‘There is no better feeling than watching the Aussies bowl with de Kock out.’

Refusing to make eye contact with Tommy, an unimpressed Lisa shuffled her papers on the desk.

‘What are you reading there, Wilko?’ he asked, with Lisa’s disapproval clearly evident.

‘Anything, as long as I don’t have to listen to you right now,’ she responded before awkwardly breaking out into laughter.

‘Have him fired,’ Tommy quipped, brushing off the on-air tension.

Lisa is known as one of Australia’s most respected broadcasters, and has landed many prestigious interviews since moving from the Today show to The Project.

While she has interviewed hundreds of political figures, celebrities and even royalty, Lisa recently revealed there is one more member of the monarchy she has her sights set on.

Speaking to Who Magazine, the 61-year-old said: ‘I’d love to sit down with Meghan Markle and go on a really deep dive with her because she is such a divisive character.’

‘With the Oprah Winfrey interview being the first one post-royal life, I understand why she went where she did because of timing, but I think there is still a lot more left to that story,’ she added.

Meanwhile, Lisa has just celebrated the launch of her autobiography, It Wasn’t Meant To Be This Way.
