Super Bowl LVI is right around the corner with one of the biggest sporting spectacles scheduled to take place at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, California, on February 13, 2022.

The Super Bowl is the pinnacle of the National Football League (NFL) season as the two best teams in American Football over the course of the season compete against each other to be crowned the champions.

Indeed, the format that has been adopted by the league will see one team from the AFC competing with one team from the NFC for the label of being World Champions, with the current Super Bowl betting odds appearing to favor the Kansas City Chiefs as the potential champions, with it appearing likely that they will play the Los Angeles Rams in the spectacle.

Whilst American Football is a highly popular sport for many Americans, it is a game that is yet to really take off over the globe, although it has admittedly taken off in a couple of European markets such as the United Kingdom and Germany to name a few.

However, given that the Super Bowl continues to attract viewers often in the hundreds of millions, it does beg the question as to why so many do actually continue to tune in to a sport that has a reputation of being stop-start and a little confusing even to the avid fan of the game?

    Super Bowl Halftime show

Of course, the answer to that question is actually relatively simple, as a lot of it outside of America – and perhaps within many American households – is due to the Super Bowl Halftime show that continually gets put on.

The show is one of the biggest events to happen annually and sees some of the biggest names perform a mini-concert live in front of the thousands in the crowd, as well as the potentially hundreds of millions watching all over the world.

Who is performing in the Super Bowl LVI Halftime show?

There have been a number of iconic performances from some of the world’s biggest musicians in years gone by, however this year’s line-up could arguably be one of the best to ever take the stage when it happens on February 13, 2022.

Admittedly, though, that could be debatable for those who are not quite fans of a particular genre of music.

Nonetheless, the show will feature R&B singer Mary J. Blige, as well as rappers Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. Indeed, a blockbuster list of music royalty!

Of the five to have been billed for the show, only Mary J. Blige has experience of performing at the Super Bowl, as she did the halftime show in 2001 when she was a special guest in a show that was headlined by Aerosmith and NSYNC, whilst also featuring cameos from Britney Spears, Nelly, Tremors, and The Earthquake Horns.

    How legendary are the performers?

We mentioned above that the list of performers scheduled to be doing their thing on stage at SoFi Stadium in a couple of weeks forms musical royalty and it certainly is not hard to understand why they do when you take into account the various awards and recognitions they have each won throughout their careers.

When combining each of the achievements together, Mary J. Blige, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar have managed to win a total of 43 Grammys and 21 Billboard No. 1 albums between them!

How long is the Super Bowl Halftime show going to be?

It is expected that the musical performances from the five artists to be taking to the stage should last anywhere between 13 and 14 minutes, although that could simply depend on the number of songs that they decide to perform and the format that the show follows.

For example, it has been reported in the past that Lady Gaga’s show in 2017 had lasted just over 13-and-a-half minutes, whilst Coldplay’s performance with Bruno Mars and Beyoncé in 2016 lasted just over 13 minutes. Justin Timberlake’s show in 2018, though, lasted almost 14 minutes.

A traditional halftime interval in a regular-season NFL game will typically last around 15 minutes, and despite the Super Bowl showpiece, it would seem that the actual period will only be slightly longer as between 20 and 30 minutes appears to be the average amount of time.
