Proposal Trends to Capture Your Loved One’s Heart

Wedding planning experts, The Knot, predict that there will be a whopping 2.6 million weddings taking place in the U.S. in 2022. Not only were many weddings postponed in 2020 and 2021, but numerous proposals were left for sunnier times. This, in many ways, makes plenty of sense, considering the fact that wedding restrictions and tiny weddings aren’t for everyone. Moreover, where love reigns supreme, what does a small wait matter? If you will be proposing to your soulmate, then make it extra special by allowing the following trends to inspire you.

    A Nature-Inspired Engagement

The popularity of visually-centered social media sites like Instagram, coupled with the new appreciation of nature that has prevailed over the past two years, means that proposals with stunning natural backdrops are all the rage. Think of a stunning park, botanical garden, or seaside paradise that is relatively close to where you live. Try to enlist the services of a professional photographer/videographer so your special moment can be captured and shared with loved ones from far and wide.

    Customized Proposals with Meaning

The Knot sees highly personalized proposals as one of the biggest trends in current times. Think cute props and signs asking your loved one to marry you, beautiful floral displays featuring your loved one’s favorite flowers, or popping the question in the very spot you met. Beautiful backdrops are being coupled with unique engagement jewelry designs that reflect the recipient’s tastes. Thus, gemstone rings in colorful sapphires and emeralds are vintage rings, and fancy-shaped halos are just as “in” as classic styles like princess and Asscher cut diamonds. If your loved one is into pearls, then check out the ring of actress Emma Stone (who opted for a pearl ring with tiny diamond details). It’s all about giving your loved one something they will actually enjoy wearing every day, instead of a ring that simply follows the tenets of traditions.

    Joint Proposals

Imagine a proposal that was pre-planned by both celebrants. Both could decide on aspects such as the setting, photographer, and circumstances—imagine being able to plan a weekend getaway in an elegant resort by the beach, or a romantic glamping experience in the mountains. Couples are increasingly choosing to sacrifice a little of the “surprise factor” in favor of making a team decision. Some celebrants are proposing after their loved one does (i.e. on another day, with an engagement ring for their loved one), while others are planning a joint “ceremony” that involves letting each other know how much they are loved and the importance they bring to their loved one’s life.

Arguably the most important trend in current proposals is that of personalization. As is the case with rings, couples aren’t willing to follow stock “scripts” when it comes to picking the location and style of their proposal. Nature-inspired proposals, meaningful details, and joint proposals are just a few trends holding sway. In the end, it’s all about being true to yourself and your loved one. What a great way to start your lives together.
